Today me and a few fellow fisherman visited Crane Hall fisheries which is situated in a place called Out Rawcliffe which is out in the sticks. We arranged to meet at the fishery at 8am. I was the first to arrive followed by Terry (the professional minnow catcher) then Tony turned up 15 minutes late. After 10 minutes of chin wag, we surveyed the pegs available, I decided due to there being a strong wind,
to fish a nice comfortable peg with a slight side wind ( big mistake ). Terry also parked his comfortable reclining chair in a cosy little peg in the corner of the lake ( another big mistake ). Tony arriving slightly late decided to fish with the wind directly into his face ( good choice ). So off we go start fishing at 9am finishing at 3pm, MATCH ON. I decided to plumb two swims up one to my left by some reeds at about 8 metres and the other to my right about a foot from a bank. I had decided my baits of choice for today would be sweet corn and red maggot's. Off we go straight into some decent roach on maggot, 1 roach 2 roach and so on, then after about 40 minutes float sinks I lift into the fish and away we go, Carp on. After a short 10 minutes battle I land a nice common around the 2lb mark, this could be a good day I think to myself. Shortly after my floats dips again I lift into it and feel something large ( Big Carp) yes, I begin to apply some pressure and the hook pulls free resulting in my rig pinging to the right and snagging in the reed ( Bollock's). Never mind it won't happen again, lol it actually happened 3 times and I caught just the one carp and lots of roach and skimmers. Tony was top dogs bollocks today catching 11 carp averaging 2 to 3lb and ended the day with around 30lb in total. Terry caught every fish in the lake under 3 inches long. On the hole it was a good day had by all, fishing, good company and a laugh. Next week we are fishing at, well we haven't decided yet but stay tuned.
Good One. Doesn't mean a lot to a person who doesn't fish.
